SCAM ALERT
For your information and safety of your confidential information: We recently received emails from area power districts that their customers are getting phone calls from potential scammers. The caller makes you believe they are an electric utility. They request money and threaten to disconnect power if the bill is not paid. State Statutes requires that any customer be notified of a disconnect status in writing. That should be your first indication that this could be a scam. If you haven’t received a disconnect notice, please don’t fall victim to this scam.
A disconnect notice or bill will have information specific to your account which a scammer would not be able to verify.
In one instance the customer was told they overpaid on their account and the scammer was trying to obtain their banking information to send them a refund.
Either way, when in doubt call Polk County RPPD 402/764-4381.
